Job Summary

The NDT/Heat Treat Technician assumes primary responsibility in administration for all non-destructive testing. Responsible for generating and maintaining all records associated with non-destructive testing. As a Heat treatment technician, you will be responsible for setting up and operating heating equipment. Working with heated workpiece control, maintaining a specific temperature for a set period, and tempering or cooling the workpieces at a certain rate to achieve required material strength. You will be expected to read and analyze blueprints, monitor project progress, and measure and inspect finished work.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist in the setup and operation of heat treat ovens and equipment, following established protocols.
  • Responsible for the set-up, calibration, and maintenance of NDT equipment,
  • Monitor temperatures, pressure, and other parameters to ensure proper heat treating conditions.
  • Proficient at dye penetrant inspection Method A.
  • Responsible for the processing of aluminum, running temperature surveys, and consistently monitoring and managing pyrometry.
  • Be familiar with codes, standards and specifications, and contractual documents that control the penetrant method.
  • Follows specifications or procedures for set-up, programming, and machine operation using blueprints, instructions, and machine knowledge.
  • Loads parts in an assigned furnace, using proper heat treatment fixtures such as baskets, racks, etc.
  • Tests the hardness of heat-treated parts to verify they meet customer requirements.
  • Performs all customer-required performance characteristic testing.
  • Handle aerospace components in accordance with safety guidelines to prevent damage or contamination.
  • Conduct visual and basic dimensional inspections to verify part integrity and conformity after masking and heat treating.
  • Record and document production data accurately, including time, temperature, and part conditions.
  • Collaborate with quality control teams to identify and report any discrepancies in the manufacturing process.
  • Complete all required reporting and documentation.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including proper storage and handling of tools and materials.
  • Work closely with other operators, supervisors, and engineers to improve efficiency and meet production schedules.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide input for process improvements.
  • Assists in the inspection of product and notifies the Team Leader/Supervisor of any non-conformances.
  • Packages parts to safely transport to production areas.
  • Accurately complete the necessary forms and adheres to scheduling due dates.
  • Works safely at all times and complies with all safety regulations while working with Hazardous materials and chemicals.
  • Maintains equipment, and work area in a clean and organized manner.
  • Works with a positive attitude and reports all questions or problems to the Team Leader or Supervisor.
  • Performs other miscellaneous job duties and related functions as needed.

 

Physical/Environmental/Chemical Hazards:

  • Sharp parts, sharp tooling, heavy carts, occasional hot and cold temperature and humidity levels, heat from ovens, moderate noise levels, limited hand and air tool use, compressed air (must use hearing protection).
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Must be able to differentiate between color variance.
  • Potential splash exposure near process lines.
  • Responsibilities are repetitive in nature.
  • Various chemicals used in process.

Education/Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Technical coursework in manufacturing, machining, or industrial processes is a plus.
  • Complete NDT training classes. NDT Minimum Level I, prefer Level II.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing or aerospace environments is a plus but not required.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude or experience with industrial equipment is desirable.
  • Ability to follow detailed work instructions and blueprints.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Basic understanding of heat treating processes is helpful but will train the right candidate.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools, measuring instruments, and safety equipment.
  • Ability to effectively utilize language: speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Must possess effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, work orders, and procedure manuals.
